Cutting Straight Lines

Few of us can cut perfectly straight lines with a pair of scissors! I really, really count on my 12”x12” paper trimmer for straight lines. A paper trimmer also makes it so much faster and easier to cut photo mats…especially nice when you have a lot of photos to cut, or if you’re making multiple mats. However, if you’re using scissors, use a ruler to draw a line on the back of the paper before you start cutting. This helps if you’re cutting with pattern-edged scissors.

You can also run the blade of an X-actoŽ knife alongside a cork-backed ruler. Place your paper on a cutting surface, then press the ruler against the paper while you cut. A metal ruler is great because it won’t be damaged by your cutting. Since I have a three-year-old, I generally prefer the trimmer because it’s far less dangerous to have around the house!
